Writing Tip #30: Formal or Informal
Ganito kasi yan, mayroon tayong dalawang klase ng way of writing. Which is the FORMAL and the INFORMAL.
1. FORMAL WAY OF WRITING
Also this writing STYLE is best use in NON-FICTION genres.
• Complex — Longer sentences are likely to be more PREVALENT in formal writing. Where each main point needs to be introduced, elaborated, and concluded.
• Objective — State main points confidently and offer full support arguments. Where in a formal writing style only shows a limited range of emotions and AVOIDS emotive punctuations such as exclamation points, elipsis, and such., unless they are being cited from other source.
• Full Words — No contractions should be used to simplify words. Abbreviations must be SPELT out in full when first used, the only exceptions being when the acronym is better known than the full name.
• Third Person — Formal writing is not a PERSONAL writing style. The formal writer is disconnected from the topic and does not use the first person point of view (I & We) or second person (you)
2. INFORMAL WAY OF WRITING
π The BEST and most EFFECTIVE way of writing for YOUNG writers. If you are going to use this style, just keep it simple, yung tipong nagkukwento ka lang ganun. Informal writing styles is a better FORM of writing when you've into informal stories like novels and such.
• Colloquial — Informal writing may include slang, figures of speech, broken syntax, asides, and so on. You can also use the first or third person point of view. Also you are LIKELY to address the reader using the second person point of view.
• Simple — Short sentences are ACCEPTABLE and sometimes essential to making a point in informal writing. There may be incomplete sentences or ellipsis (...) to make points.
• Contractions and Abbreviations — Words are likely to be SIMPLIFIED using contractions (For example: I'm, doesn't, couldn't, it's) and abbreviations (e,g: TV, photos) whenever possible.
• Emphaty and Emotions — The author can show emphaty towards the reader regarding the complexity of a thought and HELP them through that complexity.
Hope you had learn something π
