Writing Tip #31: Importance of an Antagonist



COME to think of this, what is the ESSENCE and thrill of your story without having an antagonist? Do you think your story will come in reality without them? Well the answer is a big NO!

It will NEVER be a beautiful story without it, it is the second most important part after the problem (Well antagonist are sometimes the problem itself)

Antagonist, they are not INTERESTING if they are flawless. Of course all of us know that all people had flaws and no one is perfect. Kailangan mong masabi sa mga readers mo kung bakit siya ganun nang sa gayun ay hindi siya gaanong kasuklaman. Especially when your story's protagonist was acting like an antagonist to others (Like my story It's My Diary, BITCH!)

1. CREATE HIS/HER OWN LIFE
👉 Make sure that you had build your villains and explain their lives and backgrounds PROPERLY. Also, you should treat them as a main character.

2. WHY IS HE/SHE BAD? WHAT IS HIS/HER REASON?
👉 Everything has a REASON. Why do your antagonist becomes bad? Why? Because you want him/her to be bad, you want him/her to be a villain only in a story? Well, that's not a good reason dear. There is no a bad character just to be bad. We don't know, maybe your readers will extremely hate them.

The protagonist are can be considered as antagonist too by their ACTS, right? You have read why they become like that, do you think if the writer didn't describe them properly you would love them? Panigurado hindi, kasi kasusuklaman mo lang yung karakter na iyon.

3. WEAKNESS
👉 All of them had their OWN weaknesses. Being a villain is not a good reason to make a living thing flawless. Where it can be a thing, an event, or a person.

You can't give your story a happily ever after if the antagonist can't be DEFEATED. Or he/she can't be defeated without his/her/it weakness.

Being too POWERFUL is not good and I find it too boring because in the end they will only hate your story. Because they can't find justice for your characters, it will be nonsense at all. But make sure to explain why does it become his/her weakness because no one can had suddenly a weakness on something without any REASON.

IF you are going to write a story, of course merong POINT OF VIEW . Ano nga ba ang point of view or POV? 🤔 Well, ang point of view ay kung sino ang character na nagsasalita or nagna-narrate sa isang particular na chapter.
